Got Jaguar fever? Students at Georgia Perimeter’s Newton Campus got the fever this year at their spring fling event, which included a “foam party” designed to allow students to relax. Other activities included a truck offering video game play plus laser tag, cookouts and a movie.

Looking for Venus: Stargazers at GPC’s Decatur Campus peer through a solar telescope or don special “eclipse shades” to get a glimpse of a cosmic event June 5. Sky-watching enthusiasts gathered on all GPC campuses to witness the astronomical event so rare that it will not occur again for another 105 years: the shadowy passage of Venus across the face of the sun.

Feeding the hungry: Georgia Perimeter students work in the warehouse at Hosea Feed the Hungry, helping to inventory crates of food that are donated every day. Newton Campus Student Life recently sponsored the volunteer opportunity.

Dunwoody Campus hosts math tournament: Third-, fourth- and fifth-grade students from The Davis Academy celebrate winning the overall school trophy during the Georgia Perimeter College Elementary School Mathematics Tournament held on the Dunwoody Campus. A total of 141 students representing 20 elementary schools competed in the tournament.

Relay for Life: Newton Campus Student Life raised more than $1,500 during the 2012 Relay for Life in support of faculty, staff and students in the community who survived cancer or who are currently battling the disease. More than 30 students, faculty and staff supported the effort.

Building a team builds success: Georgia Perimeter College Educational Achievement Program students participate in team-building activities at their retreat, “Meeting at the Mountain,” at Stone Mountain Park. The event was planned by the students. Members of GPC’s Personal Counseling Department also attended to advise the students.

Volunteering in community: Georgia Perimeter College staff members volunteer to answer phones in a show of support for public television during a PBA Channel 30’s fund drive.

Internationalize yourself: Students dance in native costumes during GPC Newton’s celebration of diversity week. The students got a sample of ethnic foods and culture and learned how they could “internationalize” their education through classes, clubs and study abroad opportunities.
